Here at Critteraid Farm, we’re committed to providing safe, comfortable, and caring spaces for all our animals. Our 17 goats, however, are currently sharing quarters in the cow barn, waiting for a place to call their very own. With winter approaching, their need for a proper, dedicated space has never been more pressing. That’s why we’re thrilled to share an exciting new development: Critteraid has taken steps to build a new goat barn, a place that will cater specifically to the health and comfort needs of our cherished goats.
Why Our Goats Need a New Barn
Our goats are currently housed in a temporary space in the cow barn, but it’s far from ideal. Goats have unique requirements—especially in terms of temperature control and ventilation. Cold drafts or extreme temperatures can impact their health, particularly in the chilly Okanagan winters. A dedicated, temperature-controlled goat barn with proper insulation will ensure that our goats stay warm in winter and cool in summer, offering a safe, secure, and comfortable environment year-round.
From Steel Building to Goat Haven
We’ve recently acquired a steel building that will be converted into a purpose-built goat barn, designed with their well-being in mind. The new barn will feature essential insulation and climate control systems, allowing us to maintain an optimal environment. This will make a world of difference for the health of our goats, who will finally have a secure home tailored to their needs.
Currently, we’re working closely with the District of Summerland as we finalize the building permit stage. Alongside local trades, we’re navigating pricing and logistics to make sure the project stays on track and within budget. This goat barn is more than just a shelter—it’s a promise of care and comfort for the animals that have become part of the Critteraid family.
Looking Forward to a Summer 2025 Completion
We’re aiming to complete the goat barn by summer 2025. As we continue to work through the planning stages, we’ll keep our supporters updated on our progress. From structural updates to volunteer opportunities, there will be many ways to get involved in bringing this project to life.
Our goats deserve a barn that meets their unique needs, and thanks to the generosity and support of our community, that dream is on its way to becoming a reality. We can’t wait to see our 17 goats enjoying their new home, a space that’s safe, warm, and truly their own.
Thank you to everyone who has supported Critteraid and our mission to provide safe havens for animals in need. If you’d like to contribute to the goat barn project, whether through donations or volunteering, we’d love to hear from you! Every little bit brings us closer to giving our goats the home they deserve.
