Dr.Mundhi-Sheena-and-staff-300x225

Update October 7th: Sheena is home now for good and is doing well, she is back to herself and is happy. She has her vision in her left eye and healing. Rocky is also doing great. They are both receiving laser to help speed up their recovery – they are amazing dogs. Rocky will still have a small surgery to check his inner ear. Thanks again to everyone for your support in aiding their recovery!

Update September 24th: Rocky is well on the road to recovery and was able to go home today. Sheena still has a few days to stay at the clinic before she can go home, but her stitches are healing well. Many thanks to Dr. Mundi and staff at Burtch Animal Hospital for their great care of Rocky and Sheena, and to the generous public for your donations towards the their vet care and recovery costs!

Original Story: Overnight on September 16, 2014 there was a horrible attack on three rottweilers in Kelowna. Our phone started ringing first thing in the morning with concerns as to how to help the family. We were able to speak with Burtch Animal Hospital that morning and also heard from Charlene Wiebe, the owner/guardian of the three rottweilers Lola, Sheena and Rocky.

People are able to make donations directly to Burtch Animal Hospital at 1455 Harvey Avenue, Kelowna, V1Y 6E9 or you can call with credit card donations to 1-250-860-8000. After a conversation with Charlene, Critteraid Directors have agreed to start a file for these dogs as well in order that we can take donations on their behalf and pay for veterinary and related costs and give people a tax receipt for their donations. These funds will be designated solely for the Wiebe/Grexton dogs and if a miracle happens and there is money leftover from veterinary costs, these funds stay restricted for the Wiebe dogs future costs.

Charlene will be providing photos and updates. Sadly, Lola died from loss of blood. Sheena had surgery that night and Charlene says she was actually doing very well afterwards, even eating and moving a bit. The vet, Dr. Mundi, is reconstructing much of her face and she will have to undergo surgery in the future. Rocky lost his left ear, which involves future ramifications for ear care but he is doing really well and may be able to go home on the 19th.

This violent, horrible, horrible act of inhumanity has rocked us all to the core. It is despicable and outrageous. In addition to postings on our site and Facebook page, we hope the media will provide us with ongoing updates surrounding this criminal act.

For now, we have added the Wiebe dogs to our Outreach Program and will continue to provide updates here and on Critteraid Okanagan Facebook page. The more graphic photos are posted below and as you will see, have warnings on them. Donations can be sent to Critteraid by post at 113-437 Martin Street, Penticton, BC V2A 5L1 and marked Wiebe Rottweilers or Sheena, Rocky and Lola. OR, through PayPal below.
